Hosted by Jane (Eastgate Larder) and Sarah (Bray’s Cottage Pork Pies) at Eastgate House, Norfolk.

Who doesn’t love a great cookery book? I’ve been a fan of cookery writer, editor and recipe tester, Catherine Phipps, since Twitter was young, and Jane and I are both huge fans of her books, Chicken, Citrus and Leaf (published by Quadrille). As are Nigella Lawson, Nigel Slater and many more famous food names. She’s, among other things, a cookery writer’s writer. Catherine has also appeared on Radio 4’s The Food Programme.

But going back to 2012, Catherine transformed my home kitchen life with her fantastic first book The Pressure Cooker Book. Up until then I’d just about tolerated my ancient, noisy, aluminium pressure cooker for things like stocks and beans, occasionally stews. After hearing her talk on the radio I bought a copy of her book (now splattered and bookmarked), invested in two modern pressure cookers, swiftly became evangelical and never looked back.

Catherine, who is acknowledged as the UK's leading authority on pressure cooking, will be here in October to mark the launch this autumn of her new book on the subject, Everyday Pressure Cooking. It's aimed at family cooks and those who are new to pressure cooking.

Jane and I are inviting a group of up to 12 pals, who we hope will enjoy sitting round the table together.

Catherine will cook, and we will eat a range of recipes from her new book, and  she will discuss the evolution of her experience, her readers’ input and frequently asked questions, and how she has expressed this across more than 100 everyday family recipes.

Apart from making delicious food easily and faster, pressure cookers are attractively miserly with fuel, and becoming increasingly popular. So the lunch will be topical, and suitable for beginners, returners and pressure cooker fans. Catherine will demystify the pressure cooker, take any fear away cook amazing dishes using different pressure cookers and we will eat the delicious results!

When: 12 noon – 4pm, Sunday 20th October

Where: Eastgate House, Easton Way, Eastgate, Cawston, NR10 4HF

Tickets: £45 pp. These will be bookable in advance, please email if you would like to come.

The profits from the lunch will go to Nourishing Norfolk www.norfolkfoundation.com/giving-and-philanthropy/back-our-key-initiatives/nourishing-norfolk

A Lunch Cooked By Catherine Phipps

“Phipps has one of the most characteristic and engaging voices in contemporary food writing...
— Tim Hayward - The Times
“This humdrum tool of grandmother’s thrifty cooking is resurrected with an amazing amount of glamour... Phipps shows that high-pressure cooking isn’t only quick and economic, but a tool to treasure flavour.”
— Nick Wyke The Times
“Phipps’s exceptional book shows that the pressure cooker has moved far beyond its spluttering, drab 1970s incarnation... It is worth buying for the risotto recipes alone: perfect risotto in five minutes, with no stirring (really).”
— Bee Wilson The Sunday Times
